‘John Wick: Chapter 4’ collections indicate to a strong start
Lionsgate/Thunder Road Films/87 Eleven’s John Wick: Chapter 4 is off to a solid start at the international box office with its worldwide rollout starting on Wednesday. According to information we have received, the early projected cume for a select few countries is approximately $3.9M through Wednesday, not counting the Thursday launches in Australia and New Zealand. According to industry projections, Thursday’s domestic screenings, which are expected to be around $8M, will likely set a series record.
The Keanu Reeves sequel will open this weekend in 71 foreign box office regions, the most day-and-date distribution for the series, which has typically released films in stages. The worldwide forecast, which includes $45 million from abroad, is $115 million heading into the weekend. The foreign debut of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum in 2019 was $36.9M for $93.75M globally, breaking the prior mark for the series. Since Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 2, and Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, Studiocanal’s opening day was their biggest.
New Zealand has earned $140K through Thursday, 36% more than JW3; Sweden ($100K) and Finland ($74K) each debuted JW4 at No. 1 on Wednesday, rounding out the top starts. While Finland was on par with JW3, Sweden’s release was 105% earlier.
