Gina Carano Settles Lawsuit With Disney Over Mandalorian Firing

Actress and former MMA fighter Gina Carano has reached a settlement with Disney and Lucasfilm following her 2021 firing from The Mandalorian. Carano, who played Cara Dune in the hit Star Wars spin-off, announced the resolution on X, writing, “I hope this brings some healing to the force.”

The lawsuit, filed in early 2024, alleged wrongful termination and sex discrimination, claiming Carano was dismissed for expressing conservative views on social media — including a post comparing being a Republican in the U.S. to being Jewish during the Holocaust. She sought $75,000 in damages and reinstatement in the series.

Disney and Lucasfilm condemned her original comments as “denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities.” However, in a statement following the settlement, the companies praised Carano’s professionalism, saying she was “always well respected by her directors, co-stars, and staff,” and hinted at future collaboration.

Carano described the agreement as “the best outcome for all parties involved” and expressed excitement about moving forward. She also thanked Elon Musk, who funded her legal battle, calling his support a “Good Samaritan deed” and noting they’ve never met.

“Thank you, Mr. Musk and X for supporting my case without expecting anything in return,” she wrote. “Yes, I’m smiling.”

Carano’s firing sparked widespread debate in 2021, with critics citing her posts about COVID-19 mandates, transgender pronouns, and voter fraud as inflammatory. Her agency, UTA, dropped her shortly after the controversy.

With the lawsuit now dismissed “with prejudice,” meaning it cannot be refiled, Carano says she’s ready to “flip the page” and continue her journey in the arts.
