Secret Invasion Episode 2 spoilers ahead.
In the second episode of Secret Invasion, we finally catch a glimpse of what appears to be Nick Fury’s wife. This revelation aligns with the long-standing rumors surrounding Marvel’s Disney Plus series, and it seems that Charlayne Woodard has indeed stepped into the role of Priscilla, as many had suspected.
The on-screen introduction unfolds with Fury returning home, where he is warmly greeted by his spouse in the kitchen. However, before their interaction, she discreetly signals to him that he forgot to put his wedding ring back on. Considering Fury’s spy background, it makes perfect sense that he would want to keep his loved ones a secret and close to his chest.
But things are not as straightforward as they seem. Prior to Fury’s arrival, his wife had been living her life as a Skrull, seamlessly blending in while preparing dinner.
Now, it’s important to note that Priscilla’s identity as a Skrull might not be as sinister as it initially appears. Perhaps she and Fury fell in love, leading to a harmonious life in their suburban home. However, the swift transformation to her human form when she hears the key in the front door suggests that Fury might be unaware of her true nature, indicating that there may be more at play here.
In the comics, Varra was part of a Skrull/Kree hybrid force known as the Knights of the Infinite who fought the evil mage known as Moridun.
In the comics, Nick Fury has had numerous love interests, some of whom would bear his children. These included Amber D’Alexis, a weapons smuggler who was seduced and became pregnant with his son Mikel, and Nia Jones, a fellow spy who gave birth to his son Marcus, who later was renamed as Nick Fury Jr. The Ultimate comics version of Nick Fury had an ex-wife named Monica Chang who divorced him due to his constant womanizing.
We already know that some Skrulls, in their quest to establish Earth as their new home, have infiltrated influential positions. By assuming the identities of powerful figures, they aim to exploit humanity’s propensity for conflict, paving the way for the Skrulls to seize control.
Considering Nick Fury’s connections as the former director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and his involvement with the Avengers, it’s logical to assume that Gravik and his loyal Skrulls would closely monitor him or even subtly influence his decision-making. And what better way to achieve this than by gaining access to his most trusted relationship?
If this is indeed part of Gravik’s master plan, it would be a truly devious move, perfectly fitting the evolving dynamic between the two characters. As we’ve witnessed, Fury and Gravik share a history that extends beyond the current threat to Earth and Fury’s involvement in Maria Hill’s tragic demise.
Their past dealings suggest that Fury once formed an alliance with the Skrulls, an alliance that Gravik and his followers now believe Fury has betrayed. The trailer hinted at a “personal” reason behind Fury and Gravik’s animosity, which could be attributed to his wife, though Fury mentioned it while standing beside his own gravestone.
A prevailing theory speculates that Gravik’s human appearance may actually be that of Fury’s deceased son. This possibility could shed light on why Fury is struggling to maintain a clear perspective (Special Agent Sonya Falsworth, played by Olivia Colman, questioned his effectiveness even before the turmoil in Russia).
While the MCU hasn’t explored Nick Fury’s personal life extensively in the past, it’s understandable given the nature of his super-spy persona. However, the twist in episode two of Secret Invasion demonstrates the series’ commitment to delving into this aspect.
Secret Invasion is now available for streaming on Disney+, with new episodes releasing weekly. So be sure to tune in and uncover the secrets that lie beneath the surface.
