Quadruple Amputee Cornhole Champion Dayton James Webber Arrested for Murder in Maryland
Authorities say the 27-year-old athlete fatally shot a passenger during an argument in his car before fleeing the scene.
Dayton James Webber, a 27-year-old professional cornhole player who made history as the first quadruple amputee to compete in the American Cornhole League, has been arrested on suspicion of murder in Maryland.
The Charles County Sheriff’s Office alleges Webber fatally shot Bradrick Michael Wells, 27, of Waldorf, while driving during an argument. Witnesses in the backseat told police Webber pulled over in La Plata and asked them to help remove Wells from the car. When they refused, they flagged down officers nearby.

Webber fled with the victim still inside the vehicle. Hours later, Wells’ body was discovered in a yard in Charlotte Hall, about 16 kilometers away.
Webber was arrested in Albemarle County, Virginia, where police found him at a hospital seeking treatment. He has been charged as a fugitive from justice and faces extradition to Maryland, where he will be charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and related offenses.
The sheriff’s office did not specify how Webber managed to fire a gun while driving.
Webber’s story had previously been celebrated. In a 2023 essay for NBC’s Today, he wrote that doctors amputated his arms and legs when he was 10 months old to save his life from a severe blood infection, giving him just a 3% chance of survival. By age 12, ESPN profiled him as an aspiring wrestler and football player. He later rose to prominence in professional cornhole.
The American Cornhole League issued a statement acknowledging the allegations but declined to comment further, citing the ongoing legal proceedings.
