Nicki Minaj made headlines in Washington on Wednesday, calling herself President Donald Trump’s “No. 1 fan” during a Treasury Department-hosted summit launching the new “Trump Accounts” savings program for newborn children.

The 43-year-old rapper, born Onika Maraj, told the audience her support for Trump would not waver despite criticism.

“I will say that I am probably the president’s No. 1 fan. And that’s not going to change,” Minaj said.

She added that negative commentary only strengthens her resolve.

“The hate or what people have to say, it does not affect me at all. It actually motivates me to support him more, and it’s going to motivate all of us to support him more. We’re not going to let them get away with bullying him and the smear campaigns. It’s not going to work. He has a lot of force behind him, and God is protecting him.”

Minaj’s remarks mark a sharp contrast from her 2020 stance, when she said she wouldn’t “jump on the Donald Trump bandwagon.” In recent years, however, she has become a vocal supporter. Just last month, she made a surprise appearance at Turning Point USA’s annual conference, praising Trump for giving “so many people hope” and noting their shared roots in Queens, New York.

At Wednesday’s event, Trump returned the admiration, calling Minaj the “greatest and most successful female rapper in history.” He thanked her for donating “hundreds of thousands of dollars” into the Trump Accounts program.

“I just think she’s great,” Trump said. “I didn’t know Nicki, and I’ve been hearing over the years she’s a big Trump supporter, or Trump fan. And she took a little heat on occasion because her community isn’t necessarily a Trump fan.”

The president even joked about Minaj’s famously long painted nails after the two were seen holding hands.

“I’m going to let my nails grow because I love those nails,” Trump quipped.

Minaj’s embrace of Trump underscores her growing role as a celebrity voice in politics, blending pop culture with partisan loyalty. Her appearance at the Treasury summit added star power to the rollout of Trump Accounts, a program designed to provide newborns with government-seeded savings accounts.
