NFL Receiver Rondale Moore Dies at 25 in Indiana Hometown

Rondale Moore, a wide receiver who once electrified college football at Purdue and showed promise early in his NFL career, has died at the age of 25. Authorities in New Albany, Indiana, confirmed Moore was found dead Saturday in a garage, with police citing a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound. An autopsy is scheduled.

Moore’s career was marked by brilliance and adversity. Drafted in the second round by the Arizona Cardinals in 2021, he totaled 1,201 receiving yards, three touchdowns, and 249 rushing yards with one score across three seasons. He also served as a primary returner as a rookie.

But injuries derailed his trajectory. After being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, he dislocated his right knee in training camp. The following year with the Minnesota Vikings, he tore his left knee returning a punt in preseason, ending his season before it began.

Despite setbacks, Moore was admired for his humility and resilience. Vikings coach Kevin O’Connell said:

“He was a humble, soft-spoken, and respectful young man who was proud of his Indiana roots. As a player, he was disciplined, dedicated and resilient despite facing adversity multiple times.”

The Cardinals also issued a statement:

“We are devastated and heartbroken. Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family, friends, teammates, and everyone who loved him.”

Moore’s college coach Jeff Brohm, now at Louisville, remembered him as “the ultimate competitor” with unmatched work ethic. Former teammate J.J. Watt wrote:

“Can’t even begin to fathom or process this. Way too soon. Way too special. So much left to give. Rest in peace Rondale.”

Moore grew up in New Albany, just across the river from Louisville, and was a first-team All-American as a freshman in 2018. He leaves behind his family, teammates, and a legacy of perseverance that inspired many.
