Jay Cutler Sentenced to Jail Time After DUI Arrest and Gun Possession Charges
The former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler will serve four days in jail after pleading guilty to DUI — closing a turbulent chapter that included weapons charges, a failed escape, and public fallout with ex-wife Kristin Cavallari.
Jay Cutler, former Chicago Bears quarterback and reality TV personality, has been sentenced to four days in jail following a plea deal in his October 2024 DUI arrest in Franklin, Tennessee.
Cutler, 42, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor DUI in a Williamson County courtroom on August 26, 2025. As part of the deal, prosecutors dropped his gun possession charge after he agreed to forfeit the weapons found in his vehicle — a loaded pistol and a rifle.
In addition to jail time, Cutler was fined $350, placed on one year of supervised probation, and must submit to random drug tests. His driver’s license has been revoked, and he’s required to complete a DUI safety course before reinstatement.
The arrest stemmed from a traffic collision on October 17, 2024, when Cutler rear-ended another vehicle in his white Dodge Ram. According to police reports, he attempted to flee the scene and offered the other driver $2,000 to avoid calling authorities. Officers noted that Cutler smelled of alcohol, had bloodshot eyes, and was slurring his speech. He refused field sobriety tests, and a blood sample was later obtained via warrant.
Cutler’s ex-wife, Kristin Cavallari, addressed the incident on her podcast Let’s Be Honest, saying:
“I do, of course, wish Jay nothing but the best, and I do hope that he gets the help that he needs.”

The former couple — who share three children, Camden (13), Jaxon (11), and Saylor (9) — finalized their divorce in 2022 after seven years of marriage. Their relationship remains strained. Earlier this month, Cutler accused Cavallari of lying about their divorce settlement, claiming she received a substantial payout contrary to her public statements.
“It’s insanity. It’s completely false,” Cutler said on his podcast Take It Outside. “I’ve got a divorce decree — it’s like, 67 pages — it says the number breakdown.”
Cutler earned approximately $127.9 million during his 12-year NFL career, which included stints with the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins. Since retiring, he’s made headlines for his podcast, farm life in Tennessee, and ongoing disputes with Cavallari.
His jail sentence is scheduled to begin by late September, according to court officials.
