Butterbean Calls Out Jake Paul-Tyson Fight as a Publicity Scam

Boxing legend Eric “Butterbean” Esch has strongly criticized the much-anticipated fight between Jake Paul and Mike Tyson, calling it a “scam.”

The fight, which attracted attention due to the 31-year age difference between the two, was initially set for June 20. However, 58-year-old Tyson had to pull out due to health issues, raising doubts about whether the match would ever happen.

Jake Paul, 27, ended up fighting Mike Perry, 32, instead, winning after three knockdowns. Following the victory, Paul announced that the fight with Tyson had been rescheduled for November 15. Despite this, Butterbean remains skeptical that it will ever take place.

Butterbean’s Accusation Butterbean, famous for his knockout power and larger-than-life persona, believes the entire event was just a scheme to boost Jake Paul’s popularity.

“He and Tyson are never going to fight. It’s been a scam from the start just to build Jake’s name—and it worked,” Butterbean said on TikTok.

“Everyone’s talking about him, but he’ll never fight Tyson. They never planned to fight each other, because no promoter would let him take another fight in between.”

Butterbean, who once weighed 36 stone and rarely fought past the fourth round, thinks the alleged scam has succeeded in keeping Paul in the spotlight.

Although Butterbean doubts the Paul-Tyson fight will happen, he has challenged Jake Paul to a $2 million winner-take-all fight. The 57-year-old former heavyweight, who has over 100 fights in boxing, kickboxing, and MMA, has hinted at a comeback after losing 14 stone.

Butterbean’s last professional boxing match was in 2013, but he has since hinted at a return to the ring, especially after appearing on a TV show with former wrestler Diamond Dallas Page, where he achieved significant weight loss.

Jake Paul, a social media star turned professional boxer, has had 11 professional fights with a record of 10-1. His only loss came in 2023 against Tommy Fury, the brother of heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, in a highly publicized fight in Saudi Arabia.

Since that defeat, Paul has bounced back with four straight wins, further solidifying his place in the boxing world.
