Chance the Rapper Drops ‘Star Line’ Album and Announces ‘And We Back’ Tour
After six years, Chance returns with his most personal and ambitious project yet — blending global influences, Chicago soul, and powerful storytelling.
Chance the Rapper has officially released his long-awaited album Star Line, marking his first full-length project since 2019’s The Big Day. The album dropped Friday, August 15, alongside the announcement of his And We Back tour, with tickets going on sale the same day.
Described as Chance’s “most ambitious and personal project to date,” Star Line is a 17-track journey inspired by his travels to Ghana, Jamaica, and international art fairs, as well as his roots in Chicago. The album blends hip-hop, soul, and experimental sounds, with lyrics exploring themes of identity, legacy, resilience, and Black liberation.
The title pays tribute to Marcus Garvey’s Black Star Line, a historic Black-owned steamship company founded in 1919. Chance previously honored the name with his 2023 music festival in Ghana, co-hosted with Vic Mensa.
The album features a star-studded lineup including Lil Wayne, Vic Mensa, Joey Bada$$, Smino, Jazmine Sullivan, Young Thug, Jamila Woods, Jay Electronica, and more. Production was led by longtime collaborator DexLvL, with contributions from Peter CottonTale, Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, and Nico Segal.
Chance hosted a Star Line listening party in Chicago on July 31, previewing unreleased tracks and debuting music videos. The album’s cover art was created by Brandon Breaux, the same artist behind Coloring Book, Acid Rap, and 10 Day.
The And We Back tour kicks off September 26 in Houston and wraps October 20 in Los Angeles, with stops in New Orleans, Atlanta, New York, Toronto, and Chicago. Tickets range from $75 to $350, depending on the venue.
Lead single “Tree,” featuring Lil Wayne and Smino, tackles cannabis industry inequities as a metaphor for broader racial and agricultural disparities — blending expressive style with serious themes.
Chance has also spoken openly about personal changes, including his amicable divorce from Kristen Corley in 2024, which influenced the album’s introspective tone.
